Nicole Scherzinger Admits Therapy Helped Turn Her Life Around
Nicole Scherzinger is ready to make a positive change in her life. The 36-year-old pop star recently revealed how she’s used alcohol to self-medicate and her struggle with bulimia, but has used therapy and positive thinking to gain control of her life.
“This is very exciting for me, this chapter in my life, new album, new team behind me,” Nicole says. She admits she’s spoken to life coaches, therapists, and pastors about her past. “It feels weird and invasive at first but then you just frickin’ talk about yourself so much, they’re probably going to be rolling their eyes.”
She added:
It’s good to get it out, get your thoughts in line and become aware of bad habits. Then you can grow and move forward and not make the same mistakes. If you don’t get it out, then those demons will just sit inside you and infest. You want to be a better person, you want to grow. You want to have a better life, to have purpose and not be afraid to go after your dreams.”
Since finishing her stint as a judge on X Factor, Nicole has been back in the studio, busy recording her new album and now in the thick of promotion. She admits that after not being renewed at X Factor last year (which took her by surprise, Nicole says, “Simon Cowell never spoke to me about it. I don’t know if he understood how hard I worked on the show), Nicole fell into a “dark place.” She split with her pro racing boyfriend Lewis Hamilton, and faced a “very hard time in my life.”
Nicole says, “Everybody out there struggles with those issues at times – loneliness and looking for love. I was trying to figure all that out.”
Now the pair have reconciled and seem stronger than ever, taking it “one day at a time,” as Nicole says. “It’s a relationship I really care about,” she says, so it’s worth the effort to make it work. Plus, Nicole’s therapy has put her in a better state of mind and now she’s back to doing what she loves — making music. Here’s to hoping we see more of the happy, in love Nicole in the next coming months!
