20 Total Strangers Undress Each Other For ‘Masters Of Sex’ Promo [Watch]
Why would 20 total strangers agree to undress each other, get into bed, and have themselves filmed doing it?
No, this wasn’t for a porno movie; actually it was the brainchild of filmmaker Tatia Pilevia whose previous video “First Kiss” featured 10 couples meeting for the first time – and kissing. That idea was so successful it went viral on YouTube and garnered over 85 million views.
This gave the advertising people at U.S. Cable channel Showtime the inspiration for adapting the concept to promote their hit show “Masters of Sex,” which returns on Sunday.
The video, appropriately titled “Undress Me,” features ten couples of various sexual orientations each shaking hands for the first time, then starting to take off each other’s clothes – next to a single bed.
As one might expect, the couples do not all react in the same way. Some are obviously more embarrassed than others, and fumble awkwardly with buttons and zips. Surprisingly, that embarrassment soon disappears as they wriggle out of jeans, slip out of blouses, and then climb into bed for a kiss and a hug.
Tatia Pilevia, originally from the Republic of Georgia, wrote on her YouTube channel, “I asked strangers to undress each other and get in bed. Nothing else. No rules.”
The show, which the video has been designed to promote, features Michael Sheen in the role of Dr. William Masters, and chronicles his research, together with Virginia Masters (played by Lizzy Caplan), into the sexual habits of people. The link to their first experiment in 1957 is that they chose to use 20 complete strangers.
The series “Masters of Sex,” has been nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, and purports to tell the story of Masters and Johnson, who pioneered human sexual research from the 1950s until the 1990s.
In reality, the TV version is far more concerned with the personal and sexual relationship between Masters and Johnson than it is with their research.
But you can’t blame Showtime for the fact that ” sex sells” – even for the promo!
