Willow Smith’s ‘Annie’ Remake Exit: Teen Dropped Out Due to ‘Intuition’
What prompted Willow Smith’s Annie remake departure? The teen had been slated to star in the movie remake, with her dad Will Smith producing, but ultimately Quvenzhané Wallis took on the starring role. Now Smith is opening up via Teen Vogue about her decision to walk away from the project.
It seems that Willow Smith’s Annie remake exit came about because, “To be honest, something inside me was just, like, Don’t.” She adds, “I’m very connected with my intuition.” The 13-year-old has never been particularly shy about doing or saying what she wants, so walking away from a movie that likely will be huge probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter has been in the public eye all of her life, and she has created a lot of buzz along the way. Four years ago her song “Whip My Hair” went viral, and most recently she created a stir when a photo some saw as inappropriate was posted on social media. What did she decide to do in lieu of starring in her dad’s movie remake? It seems she went back to middle school.
As BET notes, Smith had previously indicated that rather than star in the highly-anticipated flick, she decided she wanted some time to live a bit more quietly. She said, “I just wanted to chill, and be at home, and decompress.” She added that she just wanted to “find out what I wanna do and where I stand on this planet, with the little tiny place we have.”
The teen has strong opinions on fashion and she has continued to work on music. She says she has enough material to make an album, but “most of the songs I don’t like.” This is one teen who clearly does things on her own timetable as she sees fit, which the Willow Smith Annie remake decision seemingly reinforces. Despite being away from the public eye for a bit, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have big aspirations. She still plans to do an album, and fans would imagine she’s got plenty of other ideas lined up as well.
The new film, starring Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz, is set to premiere on Christmas Day. Previews have been available for some time, and many anticipate it will rake in some big bucks. Will Willow Smith’s Annie remake withdrawal lead to some regrets if the film becomes a huge blockbuster? Judging from what the teen has had to say about her decision, it doesn’t seem likely.
