David Fincher Reveals Eerie New Trailer for Gone Girl

A new trailer for David Fincher’s upcoming movie Gone Girl unravels more about the crime thriller’s plot.

The trailer — released Monday — shows Ben Affleck’s character reacting to the disappearance of his wife, played by Rosamunde Pike.

As the criminal investigation develops, Affleck finds himself hounded by media, as he becomes the main suspect in the case.

In the opening scenes, Affleck finds himself face-to-face with a TV reporter, who frankly tells him: “You’re probably the most hated man in America right now”.

Meanwhile, flashback scenes show Affleck’s character and his wife in happier times. In a voiceover, Rosamunde Pike’s character reads fragments of her diary, saying “the man of my dreams…this man of mine may kill me”.

The first trailer for Gone Girl was released in April and is just as eerie. It features the same dark scenes as the recent trailer — but in a strange juxtaposition — features Elvis Costello’s song She. The ballad is perhaps best known by film fans as the theme song from romantic comedy Notting Hill.

Gone Girl‘s sombre trailers hints at the intensity of the much-awaited movie. While the film is based on Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name, it bears a completely different ending. To keep fans guessing, Flynn added to the original story in her screenplay.

Some fans are reacting positively to the trailer and predicting Gone Girl’s film adaptation will be a success:

More than anything, Gone Girl looks more and more like a David Fincher drama. The director gravitates to moody police procedurals like Zodiac, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Se7en, and he has crafted a distinct visual style that is cool and detached and PERFECT for Gone Girl.

It seems that David Fincher is trying to reprise some of the success of his last big film, The Social Network. Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor will write the score for Gone Girl. In 2010, Reznor’s work on The Social Network won him an Academy Award for Best Original Score.

Many big names are attached to the crime thriller: Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Fugit and Tyler Perry.

Another young actress is giving Gone Girl a degree of notoriety. As The Inquisitr reported last year, Emily Ratajkowski will play Ben Affleck’s love interest in the movie. She is best known as one of the topless dancers in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video.

David Fincher’s Gone Girl is scheduled to be released on October 3, 2014.
