Her Story: Solange Knowles Opens Up About Jay Z Elevator Altercation

Solange Knowles will grace the August cover of Lucky magazine, and in the issue she also opens up about the infamous spat with Jay Z at the Met Gala.

The most popular initial reports, like this one on HuffPost Entertainment, stated that Solange was calling Jay out for cheating on her sister Beyonce. Then, after a joint family statement was released, the most popular rumor was that Solange had too much to drink at the Met Gala event and simply lost her mind.

The family statement that was released to the public back in May addressing the elevator altercation said:

“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

During her interview with Lucky, Solange briefly addressed, then dismissed, the infamous altercation:

“What’s important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”

Furthermore, on her commitment to her family:

“We’ve always held each other down no matter what,” Solange told Lucky.

Us Weekly reports, however, that a source has additional information regarding what really happened during the Jay Z-Solange show down at the Standard Hotel. According to that report, Jay Z initiated the inevitable altercation:

“Jay said something small to her along the lines of, ‘You are out of line.’ Solange was being a loudmouth and snapped at Jay trying to calm her down and get her out of there. Both Bey and Jay were trying to handle the situation. Solange has been that way before, and Jay and Bey just wanted to get her out of there and home before she really caused a ruckus.”

This statement would be consistent with other accounts that Solange has a history of bizarre behavior and acting out in violent ways. HuffPost Entertainment speculates that the act of Jay Z trying to remove Solange from the party they were attending with Beyonce set Solange off. Allegedly, Solange was enjoying herself, had been drinking, and may have said something out of line to Jay or Bey, and Jay Z took it upon himself to nip it in the bud before the situation escalated.

Still, other rumors continue to swirl regarding Jay Z’s fidelity to his wife, with whom he has one child. Recently reports surfaced that Jay Z had stepped out on Beyonce for fellow r&b singer Mya. Mya has since denied any involvement with Jay Z.
