Pizza Hut is jumping on the bandwagon for Michael Bay’s latest attempt to awesome-ize your childhood memories. The pizza chain recently announced what is probably the most natural promotional pairing you’re likely to see for a while: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-themed pizzas.
All summer long, Pizza Hut will be promoting the next TMNT flick, which hits theaters August 8. It’s a pairing that makes so much sense, one wonders if it wasn’t settled before the TMNT script was started. Pizza Hut is known for grabbing pop culture hits to market its pizzas, but rarely does an opportunity as perfect as this one come along.
“There’s no denying the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ love of pizza,” one Pizza Hut marketing exec said of the promotion. “Coupling the popularity of the Ninja Turtles to our pizza innovation, we’re thrilled to be bringing back a fan favorite in Cheesy Bites Pizza that combines the great pizza taste with a little ‘food fun’ for fans to enjoy.”
Pizza Hut will be bringing back its Cheesy Bite pizza starting July 7. The kicker is that fans can pick from four pizza creations to get their favorite Ninja Turtle’s favorite pizza.
Donatello, the brainy one, goes with chicken, mushroom, green pepper, and tomatoes. Leonardo opts for onions, black olives, green pepper, and mushrooms, cementing the fact that he was the lamest of the quartet. Michelangelo, the “party dude,” picks a wild combination of pepperoni, ham, pineapple, and jalapeño, and Raphael sticks with a cool but rude pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, and beef combo.
Pizza Hut’s Ninja Turtle-themed pizzas will likely run through the end of August, depending on how well the flick does in theaters.
As to the Ninja Turtles movie, it will hit theaters in August just as we said. Michael Bay’s never-ending quest to ruin all that is good in the world will try to wrest the box office crown from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which launches the week before. In this incarnation, the pizza-loving turtles will be “genetically-altered” created in order to provide some force with the ultimate warriors. Or something. We’re not really sure, but it will be heavy on “the awesome,” and will likely include multiple shots of Megan Fox’s April O’Neil washing cars or finding some reason to remove her shirt. Because awesome.
There’s no guarantee as yet that the Turtles will show their love of pizza in the film. Bay might well decide to nix any pizza-eating scenes in favor of a slow-mo shot of April whipping her hair back… or, like, a pan-up that shows metal balls on Shredder’s costume. God help us.
