WWE News: Early Plans For WWE Royal Rumble, The Shield Heavily Featured
WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV has been known to help create stars, sometimes even without the win. The Rumble helped put over guys such as Rey Mysterio, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kane, and many more. Last year, WWE considering breaking The Shield up right after the Rumble, which is why they heavily put over Roman Reigns and gave him the elimination record along with having him eliminate his Shield brethren.
Of course, as we know, Reigns and The Shield split last month, months after the Rumble PPV. This year’s Rumble seems to be a show that WWE plans to heavily push The Shield guys in. Seth Rollins is the current Money in the Bank winner, Reigns seems to be the WWE’s new IT guy, and Ambrose is an unstable guy who you simply cannot ignore. All men are stars in the making and WWE feels that they have to use them now or they may risk losing what they have. That is why Rollins already has the MITB case and why they are planning to push Reigns to the moon soon.
According to the Wrestling Observer, the current plan is to have the Rumble come down to all three Shield members. Due to the fact that Reigns came so close to winning last year, being the last eliminated from the match, he is set to win the event. He would then go on to WrestleMania in the main event to beat whoever the champion is at the time. As I wrote about this past week, the current plan is to have him face Brock Lesnar on the grandest stage of them all.
It is telling that WWE would push all three men so well. It is said that the WWE loves all three men and feels they all can be major stars for them and faces of the company from now into the future.
All three guys are also still very young. Rollins and Ambrose are both 28 years of age, and Reigns just turned 29. With all guys being younger than 30, WWE could seriously make them major stars for them over the next 10 years. That all started to take place at last year’s Rumble, and it is only expected to continue at this year’s Rumble.
Another interesting turn is that WWE is still considering the idea of putting the three back together off and on as time goes on. WWE feels that The Shield is one of the best factions they ever had, and having them back together off and on like D-Generation X would be ideal when the time is right. For now however, all members are expected to remain on their respective singles run.
