Batcave Opens Its Doors On Batman’s 75th Birthday
Batman is celebrating his 75th birthday on July 23 and you’re invited. It seems that one day to celebrate is not enough, so DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are cooking up something for Batman fans for the whole month of July, TIME reports.
All around the U.S., fans will be able to partake in Batman festivities including a studio tour, free special-edition comic books at participating stores, DVD releases, and new merchandise. Fans will get a glimpse of the Dark Knights batmobiles, souvenirs, capes, and other memorabilia during the VIP studio tours. Other characters the exhibit features include The Riddler, Two-Face, and Penguin. More information is available on the Warner Bros. website.
“For a limited time, you’ll be able to get up close to the iconic costumes, gadgetry and vehicles used in all seven movies as we open the doors to the Batcave and reveal some closely-guarded filmmaking secrets. Expert tour guides will accompany you as you spot iconic locations from the movies and will lead you to our newly-transformed Studio Tour museum.”
Batman was born in May 1939 when DC Comics requested writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane to create a new superhero after Superman’s big success.
Batman was given a different persona from Superman. While Superman had a colorful costume and appears in daylight to save citizens, Batman was given a dark persona, which matches his dark cape and costume.
Batman, known to the public as Bruce Wayne, is a billionaire who witnessed the murder of his parents when he was a child. As a form of revenge, he swore that he would catch criminals in Gotham City.
In an interview, Danny DeVito, who played Batman’s enemy Penguin in the 1992 film Batman Returns said, “The world has no heroes… Batman gives you some hope and some faith.”
Soon after his introduction, Batman became very popular and had his own comic book by 1940. In the 1960’s, a Batman television series was born. Through the years, Batman films have kept the brand successful. As a whole, the seven Batman movies (Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises) have made $3.7 billion around the world in box office sales.
Batman will be back on the big screen in 2016 on the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Along with the series of treats in celebration of Batman’s 75th birthday, Warner Bros. also announced that they will be releasing the 1960’s show Batman: The Complete Television Series on DVD and Blu-Ray. Fans can now watch 120 episodes in November. According to Comic Book Resources, more details will be revealed on July 24 at Comic-Con International.
