OutKast’s Big Boi Released From Jail, Rumored to be Working on New Album
rapper “Big Boi,” who was arrested this weekend in Miami for drug possession, was released yesterday after posting $16,000 bail.
After regaining his freedom, he took to Twitter to post his thoughts on the matter:
“Fresh Out Baby!” Big Boi tweeted at about 6pm, followed by, “Sh– they said it was the Love Boat,” two hours later.
Big Boi, whose real name is Antwan Patton, was initially booked on three counts of narcotics possession and one count of drug paraphernalia possession, after officials at the Port of Miami discovered 5.7 grams of MDMA powder, three pills of ecstasy, ten and a half pills of Viagra, and a cigarette roller with marijuana residue in his luggage.
Pattons lawyer, Daniel Kane, has already expressed his confidence that his client would be completely cleared of the charges in a statement released via Twitter:
“While Big Boi was traveling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage. I am confident when the entire facts are aired, Big Boi will be completely exonerated,” Kane posted.
Since forming in 1992, OutKast – comprised of Patton and Andre “3000” Benjamin – has sold more than 25 million records worldwide, earning six Grammy Awards in the process.
And while it has been nearly 11 years since the last OutKast album that heavily featured both artists was released, Grammy-winning collaborator Killer Mike told CNN that all is about to change.
“Dre called me a week or two ago and he’s back at it [rapping],” Mike told CNN in a recent interview. “He’s recorded some stuff solo and he’s also indicated there’s going to be another OutKast album.”
