The Boba Fett movie details are still shrouded in mystery, but so far, based upon the latest leaks and rumors, it seems very likely that the Star Wars spinoff will focus on an older and “good” version of the Mandalorian bounty hunter instead of the Star Wars villain we’ve come to love over the years.
In a related report by The Inquisitr , the Boba Fett movie may have cast Temuera Morrison as the fabled bounty hunter for the Star Wars spinoff. If the name does not immediately ring a bell, then you will probably instantly recognize the face of the actor who played Jango Fett and all the clone troopers. Of course, that entire rumor was based upon the IMDB page for the untitled Star Wars project for 2016, and a recent update has removed Morrison’s name in addition to all the other actors previously listed.
In fact, everything about the Boba Fett movie is the stuff of rumors and leaks. Disney only confirmed three Star Wars spinoffs, but not their names or release dates, so the only reason we “know” about the Boba Fett movie is because the toy maker Hasbro accidentally released a list of all the upcoming Star Wars movies. Assuming that is true, the Boba Fett release date is set for 2016, Solo is set for 2018, and the final movie is Red Five in 2020.
While some people believe the movie may portray a young Fett in which the plot takes place between prequels and the originals, it’s possible the Boba Fett movie may tie directly into Star Wars: Episode 7. Of course, that would mean he managed to escape the Sarlacc pit after Han Solo knocked him into the creature’s mouth.
In the case of the Star Wars expanded universe timeline, we know that Boba Fett was married at one point and had a daughter named Ailyn Vel. The plot gets complicated with Jango Fett clones getting into the mix and his own daughter wanting revenge on him. The short version is that Boba Fett eventually becomes a good guy, ironically working together with Han Solo and his family in order to defeat Darth Caedus.
The Star Wars expanded universe has been tossed out the window, but it seems Disney still wants to make Fett a good guy. According to the rumor , a Disney executive breakfast discussed having “minor problems going forward with a film about a villain” since they wanted to transform the character:
“Lucasfilm wants Boba Fett to remain menacing and scary but we have to make him the hero of the film and it is a real challenge.”
This would seem to indicate the Boba Fett movie will not be about a young Fett. After all, this is the guy who Darth Vader had to remind: “I want him alive. No disintegrations.” Although some would argue he’s effectively neutral as a merc, others may say that writing a story about a hero who then works with villains like Vader later on may be a bit of a stretch.
Based upon the assumption that the movie will focus on an older bounty hunter, the latest Star Wars 7 plot detail leaks may have given us a hint for what to expect in the Boba Fett plot details. It’s claimed that Luke Skywalker is being chased by “Jedi Hunters” who, in fact, may be armored Mandalorian mercenaries working with Sith Witches. This would be the Nightsisters of Dathomir, the home planet of Darth Maul. If the movies are connected directly at all, then this might mean we’ll be treated to a Boba Fett cameo or at least a name drop along the way in Star Wars 7.
Would you be happy with a Boba Fett movie that casts the bounty hunter as a hero?
