Marvel fans, Avengers 2 has apparently casted Andy Serkis in a role that is still unknown to us. If you don’t know who Andy Serkis is, he is one of the best when it comes to performance capturing acting. Serkis has acted out roles such as: Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and he even played King Kong . Serkis along with producer Jonathan Cavendish, has co-founded their own performance capture studio called the Imaginarium. The purpose of Imaginarium is to serve as a consultant to films such as Godzilla .
Originally we were led to believe that Serkis had been working with Mark Ruffalo about performance capturing techniques for the Hulk. Now it has been confirmed that Serkis will have a role in Avengers 2 , but we just don’t know to what extent. The news that Andy Serkis will have a role in Avengers 2 , is from an interview Serkis had with Variety . When asked about his role Serkis said this:
” Im not at liberty to mention. But it’s all the same to me. I’ve never drawn a distinction when playing a role whether it be live action or performance capture. Acting is acting. It’s just basically what you wear to the set that’s different.”
When asked about coaching Mark Ruffalo in Avengers 2 Serkis said:
” Performance capture was used on the previous Hulk, but not to the same extant Mark is using it now. There are tools and ways of working with an actor that makes them feel that they own the character. And a character the size of the Hulk needs ownership, which Mark has now.”
So from this statement we are expecting the Hulk to be even more incredible than he was in the previous Avengers movie. This amount of coaching makes sense due to the reports that the Hulk will have a bigger role to play in Avengers 2 . However, for Sekis there could be a wide range of possibilities he can play in Avengers 2 from : Thanos, Ultron, Vision, and who knows what else, and that just adds even more anticipation to Avengers 2 . Avengers 2 will bring back all the main Avengers from the first movie, and add tons of new characters that will influence Marvel’s cinematic universe.
Well until Avengers 2 comes out next May, and you want to go see how good of a performance actor Andy Serkis is, then you should go see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes July 11th.
