Dirty Dancing Remake On The Way, Jennifer Grey Chimes In
Ever since So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars became ratings darlings we’ve had to suffer through various dance movies with very little plot and the same premise repeated over and over again and now we are apparently going to suffer through a dance movie we’ve already seen once with Dirty Dancing set for a remake.
According to reports the movies original choreographer Kenny Ortega will remake the movie. Ortega has had a string of good luck in the last few years including his work with High School Musical and Michael Jackson’s This Is It.
In a statement Ortega said of the movie:
“Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him,” while adding, “I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats.”
Ortega surely hopes to repeat some of the original movies successes, the 1987 movie cost just $6 million to make and earned more than $215 million.
Along with the remake, stage versions of the popular movie have been produced around the world.
When asked what she thought of remaking the movie, the original films star Jennifer Grey told E!:
“I’m so excited about this news, and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one,” while adding, “I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”
