Crooner Bruno Mars Makes Forbes List
Pop crooner Bruno Mars had a huge year. Not only did he break out in a big way through his Super Bowl half time performance, but he also embarked on a very successful tour called Moonshine Jungle to promote his sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox.
Due to his success reaching new highs Bruno made some serious bank this year and cracked into Forbes’ top 20 earners list. As a relatively new artist, Bruno Mars has the honor of being the top-ranked newcomer this year, ranking at number thirteen with an estimated $60 million.
In addition to pulling in some major dough, Bruno Mars also became the youngest halftime headliner ever at only 28-years-old. The performance helped with the promotion of his album, and the artist saw it go double platinum.
Of the super bowl performance, Bruno told Ellen DeGeneres back in February that it was “the biggest stage on earth.” Of the performance that led him to the top of the Forbes list, Bruno said he automatically started thinking about how he would leave his mark on the stage, which meant practicing for months.
“As soon as we got the call I was thinking about ideas and you know, how are we going to pull this off?”
In addition Bruno was very open about what he thinks of the New York Times piece that criticized Mars’ star power and went on to say that the star needed a fragrance to sell himself.
At the time he called it, “by far the most disgusting thing I think I’ve heard.”
Mars went on to explain:
“Not because it was taking a shot at me but I was thinking about aspiring young musicians who want to do this and even hearing the thought you need a fragrance or something like that is just is– It doesn’t take a fragrance, its not about the tabloids, it’s about you putting in the work, practicing every day, practicing your vocals, practicing your instrument, practicing songwriting.”
As for his tour, Bruno Mars is still keeping pretty busy. As we previously reported, the singer learned that he had played an important role in the recovery of 11-year-old crash victim Zumyah Thorpe. Unfortunately Zumyah was the only survivor while her two sisters, and her pregnant mother were killed.
During Mars’ concert on Saturday he serenaded the 11-year-old with her favorite song “Just The Way You Are.” After the performance he went into the audience and gave her a hug. Looks like Bruno really knows how to pay it forward.
