Julianne Hough Explains Why Romance With Ryan Seacrest Failed

Julianne Hough has finally sounded off on her failed relationship with TV entertainer and radio personality Ryan Seacrest. The professional dancer had dated Seacrest for three years, and just when the couple looked like they were headed down the aisle, the pair split up.

For Hough, it was a difficult time, but one that was met with self-reflection. Now that Hough has found love again with hockey player Brooks Laich, she’s finally talking about why her relationship with Seacrest failed and why her current relationship works.

For the star, she said she felt pressure to be perfect. This isn’t too hard to believe considering Ryan Seacrest has a very composed image that oftentimes makes the American Idol host seem perfect.

The dance pro turned actress opened up to Redbook by generalizing all of her relationships:

“Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right. I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect.”

Her relationship with NHL’s Brooks Laich seems to be going in the right direction. According to Julianne, she’s completely herself and very open about the person she is. Something she hadn’t completely figured out how to do in her last relationship, which just so happens to have been with Ryan Seacrest.

“Now I’m not holding anything back, because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?”

Her breakup with Seacrest in March of 2013 made Hough take a step back and examine herself. She explained the instance where she took a six-day seminar back in November.

“I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn’t work that by the end I was on a high. I was seeing a couple people, but immediately [pretends to text guys], ‘You are nice, but this is going nowhere.’ The next day my Curve costar introduced [Brooks and me]. It couldn’t have been a better time. We’ve been open and honest from day one.”

Julianne has been dating Brooks since December of 2013. It’s believed that the two were set up by their mutual friend Teddy Sears. Hough and Teddy Sears met on the set of the new thriller Curve.
