Hope Solo Apologizes For Domestic Violence Arrest, Vows To Do Better

Hope Solo has apologized after being arrested for allegedly assaulting two relatives, saying that she takes her responsibilities as a role model seriously and vows to do better.

The U.S. women’s soccer standout was arrested at her home in Seattle after police say she drunkenly assaulted two family members, her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew. Reports claimed that Solo was drunk at the time of the arrest.

Police said Solo’s nephew and sister had injuries when they arrived, and determined that the soccer star was the “primary aggressor.”

Investigators did not give details of what led to the fight, but noted that the party at the home Solo shares with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, was quite wild.

“There was a big party going on at her house. It was an out-of-control situation,” Kirkland police lieutenant Mike Murray told the Seattle Times.

Solo has pleaded not guilty and released on the condition that she avoid contact with the alleged victims and not drink alcohol.

In a statement posted on Thursday to her Facebook page, Solo also said she hoped to resolve the incident with family members.

Solo wrote:

I would like to apologize to my fans, teammates, coaches, marketing partners and the entire US Soccer and Seattle Reign FC communities for my involvement in a highly unfortunate incident this past weekend. I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct. I take seriously my responsibilities as a role model and sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed.

I love my family dearly. We, like all families, have our challenges but my sincere hope is that we are able to resolve this situation as a family. Adversity has always made us stronger and I know this situation will be no different.

I also would like to thank everyone who has reached out with messages of support and encouragement. I truly appreciate your loyalty, concern and well wishes.

Due to pending legal issues, I cannot comment further at this time. However, I am confident in the legal process and believe my name will be cleared.

I look forward to getting back on the field where I belong with both Seattle Reign FC and the US Women’s National Team.

While she awaits the legal process to play out, Hope Solo will be able to continue her playing career. The Seattle Reign said they will allow her to continue playing while the matter is being resolved.

Hope Solo is set to return to court on August 11 for a pre-trail hearing.
