Katy Perry Sets ‘Billboard Top 40’ Singles Record
Earlier today, singer Katy Perry became the first artist ever to have five singles from the same album make it to the #1 spot on Billboard’s Pop Songs Chart.
Perry’s newest single, Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), climbed up this week from number two on Billboard’s top 40 chart to grab the top spot, joining her previous chart-toppers: “Teenage Dream,””California Gurls,” “Firework” and “E.T.” – all from her platinum-selling second album Teenage Dream.
Prior to her Teenage Dream success, Katy was tied with Justin Timberlake (FutureSex/LoveSounds) and Lady Gaga (The Fame), whose albums yielded four number ones apiece.
In addition to breaking the single’s record, Perry’s latest hit – currently holding down the #2 position – is set to take over the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100, which would make her the second artist ever to mark five #1 singles from the same album on the iconic chart, a mark held by Michael Jackson’s Bad.
