Thor’s New Costume in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Revealed
Thor will have a new outfit in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is currently filming around the world. Chris Hemsworth returns for the forth time as Marvel Studios’ God of Thunder, and the highly-anticipated Avengers’ sequel is once again written and directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly).
The new Thor costume looks to be sleeker, with more emphasis placed on the round discs that adorn his tunic. And according to the image, which originally surfaced on Comicbookmovie.com Thor will be sleeveless. The sleeveless look is closer to the original character, as created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in 1962. The modern Marvel Comics Thor has a type of chain mail on his arms and legs. Both comics versions of Thor feature the winged helmet. Hemsworth briefly wore a similar helmet in one early scene in 2011’s Thor.
Costume changes seem to be the norm in the Marvel Studios films, as Iron Man and Captain America have both worn different outfits each time they’ve been on film, and even Thor has had a few trips to wardrobe, as shown in a story on Moviepilot.com. Different outfits help sell more toys, and toys based off Marvel Studios Films are usually hot sellers, but have seemed to cool in recent years.
The first Avengers film originally hit theaters in 2012 and went on to make over a billion dollars worldwide. It is considered one of the most successful movies ever made. The sequel, which premieres in May of 2015, features a longtime comic book villain, Ultron (played by James Spader), who was originally developed by Hank Pym in the comic books, but reportedly his origin was changed to be a Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) creation for the film universe. Ultron is a android/robot that develops sentience and becomes one of the Avengers greatest foes.
Joining Hemsworth, Spader and Downey, Jr., in Age of Ultron will be Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, each reprising their roles from the first film. New cast members include Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany as J.A.R.V.I.S./Vision.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will ride the new electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It will be the first good look at the hot new bike, codenamed Project LiveWire, in action.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be unleashed upon the world next summer.
