Watch Nancy Grace Tell Charlie Bothuell’s Dad His Son Was Found, Horribly
As The Inquisitr pointed out yesterday, missing Detroit tween Charlie Bothuell has been recovered alive — a development that his father seemingly had the misfortune of learning live on a segment of Nancy Grace.
The entire story is one of those “more questions than answers” ones, but Charlie Bothuell V has been missing under undefined circumstances for well more than a week in Detroit. The 12-year-old was homeschooled, and the circumstances under which the boy disappeared were not very clear.
Dad Charles Bothuell reported his son missing early this month and yesterday Charlie was recovered alive in the basement. It would appear that the news broke just as father Charles Bothuell was scheduled to appear on Nancy Grace’s show, and in total Nancy Grace style, the host saved the shocking update for when the man’s face was being broadcast live across America.
Ghoulishly, should the video reflect the actual situation unfolding (that the elder Bothuell was unaware his son was indeed alive and had been located inside the family home), it seems like Grace deliberately withheld the portion of the news indicating that the boy was unharmed… allowing the distraught man to believe his son’s body had been located.
As of today, police in Detroit have made a series of conflicting and noncommittal statements about what may have led to the discovery. The Bothuell home appears to indeed have been searched at length by both police and other law enforcement agents, making the discovery (behind a makeshift barrier) even more perplexing.
Visibly shaken by the news first that his son had been located and then that his son was safe, Bothuell struggles to respond to Grace’s accusatory tone.
Nancy charges:
“I don’t know why you guys would have reported him missing. All our viewers have been on the lookout for him.”
Bothuell responds:
“I checked my basement, the FBI checked my basement, the Detroit police checked my basement… I’ve been down there several times… God, they brought dogs, everything… Everybody has searched.”
Detroit Police Chief James Craig confirmed the positive update, but doubted that the boy had been the agent of his own disappearance, telling reporters:
“I’ve never seen anything quite like this… We found him barricaded in the basement, behind boxes and a large five-gallon drum. There’s no way he could have erected this makeshift area of concealment.”
Following the interview with Nancy Grace, further information on the Bothuell disappearance has not yet been released by police in Detroit.
