Lauryn Hill Hits Festival Circuit
Back in the 90s, singer and rapper Lauryn Hill was a name that was on everyone’s lips. Starting out as a member of The Fugees, Hill went on to achieve even bigger success with her solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and even broke a record that was previously held by Carole King. At the time, she won four Grammy words. She even starred in a few hit films as well.
Unfortunately when the millennium ushered in Lauryn Hill was nowhere to be found. After serving a sentence for tax evasion, Hill is back and ready to make music. The singer has already made a few festival performances on a tour.
Currently, Lauryn Hill is in the middle of a tour that ends on September 25 in the United Kingdom, but there has been no new news in regards to music in the form of an EP or LP. That said, it looks like Hill is joining the Electric Forest Festival over the weekend.
According to Glide magazine, Hill will take to the stage in Rothbury, MI at the sold out event. The line-up includes The String Cheese Incident, Ms. Lauryn Hill, MOBY, Zedd, and Aloe Blacc. Following that show, Hill will be playing in Minneapolis, MN on the 30.
While Hill hasn’t been too open in the media throughout her legal battle, she’s addressed issues important to her through open letters.
In one of her many open letters, Lauryn Hill mentions a new record deal with Sony which she will release more music on. Talking about the balance between making art and relying on the structure of the business, Hill wrote:
“I’ve remained silent, after an extensive healing process. This has been a 10+ year battle, for a long time played out behind closed doors, but now in front of the public eye. This is an old conflict between art and commerce… free minds, and minds that are perhaps overly tethered to structure. This is about inequity, and the resulting disenfranchisement caused by it.”
Although this is a letter written a year ago, we’re finally starting to see a reflection of Lauryn Hill’s future in the industry, though we still aren’t sure when she will release new music.
“I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so.”
Perhaps Lauryn Hill will release an album this year after her tour.
