Reese Witherspoon Believes In ‘A Good Lie’ (Trailer)
After a rather dry spell at the Academy Awards, Reese Witherspoon just may have a shot at taking home Mr. Oscar for her new movie, The Good Lie. This drama is based on the true story of the “Lost Boys of Sudan” when tens of thousands of boys fled the refugee camps during the Second Sudanese Civil War. These boys were left homeless when war destroyed everything in their lives.
Reese Witherspoon portrays Carrie Davis, a single, American woman, who finds it in her heart, like many Americans at the time, to take in three of these lost boys. Carrie (Witherspoon) was hesitant at first, but once she learned of these boys’ horrifying stories, she could not turn her back on them.
Carrie (Witherspoon) knew she had to do whatever it took to ensure these boys have a good life after all they had been through. Carrie has good intentions, but is completely unprepared for what is involved in taking them under her wing.
Witherspoon shows her feisty side, much like Julia Roberts in Erin Brokovich and the movie even has a tendency to feel a bit like Sandra Bullock’s The Blind Side as we see Witherspoon fighting for these boys, showing great determination and courage. In fact, The Good Lie shares the same executive producer as The Blind Side with the tagline “She opened her home. They opened her eyes.”
These elements alone could be a shoe in for Reese Witherspoon to get an Academy nomination.
One extremely cool element about The Good Lie, is that the producers actually filled two of the lost boys roles with actual Sudanese actors. Ger Duany, who was an actual lost boy, is now a model. And the other is Emmanuel Jal, who was a child soldier and is now a hip-hop artist.
Reese, who won an academy award for her role in Walk The Line back in 2006 is working hard to make that walk to the platform yet again to receive an award for The Good Lie, which is scheduled to open October 3. Reese also has another film coming out this fall, which is the adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s memoir Wild, as well as Reese wearing her producer cap in Gone Girl.
It seems as though we will be seeing a lot of Reese Witherspoon in the months ahead.
