Gary Oldman Gives Profanity-Laced Interview Defending Mel Gibson
Gary Oldman was adamant in a profanity-laced interview with Playboy magazine (released yesterday) about his defense of stars like Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin.
Interviewed by David Hochman, Gary Oldman reportedly “fidgeted in his seat” when asked about the troubles that Mel Gibson has gone through in the past few years.
“I just think political correctness is crap,” Oldman finally said. “That’s what I think about it. I think it’s like, take a f—-ng joke. Get over it.” Gary went on to say, “I don’t know about Mel. He got drunk and said a few things, but we’ve all said those things. We’re all f—-ng hypocrites. That’s what I think about it. The policeman who arrested him has never used the word n—-r, or that f—–g Jew? I’m being brutally honest here. It’s the hypocrisy of it that drives me crazy. Or maybe I should strike that and say ‘the N word,’ and ‘the F word,’ though there are two F words now.”
What Gary Oldman was referring to, of course, was the incident in 2006, as described here by The New York Times, when Gibson was arrested for DUI. When he was being arrested, Gibson hurled anti-semitic slurs at the arresting officer. Soon after the events of the arrest were made public, Gibson was ostracized by the Hollywood community.
Referring to Gary Oldman’s two F words comment, Hochman asked for clarification.
“Alec [Baldwin] calling someone a f– in the street while he’s pissed off coming out of his building because they won’t leave him alone,” Gary Oldman continued. “I don’t blame him. So they persecute. Mel Gibson is in a town that’s run by Jews and he said the wrong thing because he’s actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him – and doesn’t need to feed him aymore because he’s got enough dough,” Gary said. “He’s like an outcast, a leper, you know? But some Jewish guy in his office somewhere hasn’t turned and said, ‘That f—–g kraut,’ or ‘F— those Germans,’ whatever it is?”
Gary Oldman then continued to talk about hypocrisy. “We all hide and try to be so politically correct. That’s what gets me. It’s just the sheer hypocrisy of everyone, that we all stand on this thing going, ‘Isn’t that shocking?'” Gary Oldman then gave the interviewer a wry smile and said, “All right. Shall I stop talking now? What else can we discuss?”
Hochman, perhaps on a whim, suggests, “What do you think of the pope?”
To which, Gary replied, “Oh, f— the pope!” Reportedly, Oldman then laughed and put his head in his hands. “So this interview has gone very badly. You have to edit and cut half of what I’ve said, because it’s going to make me sound like a bigot.”
Gary Oldman’s latest movie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will be released on July 11th.
