Ghana Football Team Surprises Germany With 2-2 Draw, World Cup 2014, Group G
A surprise result in the “Group of Death” — Group G — had the Ghana football team draw 2-2 against powerful Germany in the second round of the groups stage. This result is welcome news to Team USA, who is currently in second place with three points and face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Sunday.
Germany walked all over Portugal in the group opener and they scored first against Ghana, but the football team rallied and tied almost immediately. This forced the Europeans to up their ante and use all the tools at their disposal to merely draw with Ghana. Not many expected that result.
Group G is certainly living up to its nickname and things are wide open, with Portugal sitting in last place — not many thought that would happen either. However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury is proving to be more problematic than previously expected and Germany effectively neutralized him.
Ghana was impressive, especially in the second half. For Germany, it was a case of déjà vu, all over again as they continued with their poor record in second World Cup matches.
Germany has won only one World Cup second game in the last six tournaments, a record that lives on after the 2-2 draw against Ghana’s football team at Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza. Ghana showed that their football keeps improving and were able to play at the very high level Germany displayed.
The first half of the match between Ghana and Germany had nothing to write home about and was uneventful, however the level of football improved exponentially in the second half. For a time, it looked as if Germany would run away with the game, when Mario Götze scored in the 51st minute.
Germany’s celebration in the football field didn’t last long, as Andre Ayew scored the equalizer only three minutes later. Asamoah Gyan — who made history, becoming the first African player to score in three World Cups — once again put Ghana up in the 63rd and Miroslav Klose scored the equalizer for Germany in the 71st minute saving them from a humiliating loss.
Both teams had plenty of opportunities to run away with the win in the ensuing minutes, but both goalies deflected the shots. Ghana goalkeeper, Fatawu Dauda, made some spectacular stoppages that came when the desperate Germans were trying to get the lead.

The Ghana football team certainly surprised everyone drawing against Germany, who many experts believe can win the 2014 World Cup. Those rooting for the underdog, had plenty to cheer on, in a thrilling match that had all the drama that comes at this level of competition.
