Former Porn Star Running For School Board In Florida

An ex-porn star is running for a seat on the Palm Beach County (Fla.) School Board.

And yes, he’s a proponent of sex education.

Under the stage name “Dave Pounder,” candidate David Mech reportedly appeared in about 100 adult films over 10 years, including one called Entering the Student Body.

Mech retired from the porn industry four years ago and now runs a math tutoring business. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s in information management, and is also working toward two Ph.Ds.

He also has a federal lawsuit pending against the same school board for taking down the advertising for his tutoring service in 2013 after officials got wind of his background in the adult film industry.

Mech’s party affiliation, if any, is not indicated in any news reporting, but he has qualified for the August 26 primary against an incumbent and another challenger.

The David Mech website indicates that his school board campaign platform is based on bringing fundamental change in the areas of technology, innovation, equality, sex education, and secular values.

Among other things, Mech, 38, is also a proponent of installing condom dispensers in high schools to bring down the rate of teen pregnancy and STDs. “If somebody wants a condom, you don’t even have to ask the nurse, there’s a receptacle, you just grab one and leave,” said Mech.

As far as whether he is a good role model, Mech insisted that “if you’re going to use the role model argument, you’d also have to fire teachers who are overweight, teachers who don’t eat proper nutrition. We know tobacco use is associated with many different diseases; are we going to fire all teachers who smoke?”

The former porn actor apparently believes he should be judged on the issues in the school board election but is not hiding from his past: “How much of that came from my experience working at Burger King in high school, versus the adult film industry, or when I taught at Palm Beach, or math tutoring, it’s a collective of everything. But the important thing is the idea of civic debate.”
