Over the last few months details of Jesse Eisenberg’s modern interpretation of Lex Luthor has been trickling out. Now that filming has begun on Batman V Superman , reports have surfaced about just how different and modern Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor will be.
When it was announced that the Social Network actor would be jumping into shoes previously filled by actors like Kevin Spacey and Michael Rosenbaum, there was a very negative, almost knee-jerk reaction to the news. It was almost worse than when Warner Bros. announced that Ben Affleck would be taking on the caped crusader role.
Since filming has begun in Detroit we have caught a glimpse of Affleck’s Batman suit , and now we have a bit more information on Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Aside from major rumored plot points, Eisenberg’s look hasn’t really been discussed at length. Previously there were reports that he would reflect a “skinhead punk” version of Lex.
For Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor may start off with hair. This is going off of reports from Batman-News that say the actor was spotted with hair while filming the movie over the last two days.
It’s believed that LexCorp scenes were the bulk of what was being filmed. This is the location where Eisenberg was seen sporting dirty-blonde hair. It should be noted that in the comics, when Lex does have hair it’s red. Despite that, at least the producers have decided not to feature Eisenberg’s trademark curly haired look.
Playing on Jesse’s quirky body language, his version of Lex Luthor will have spastic mannerisms that are being compared to a “20-something guy that fuels on energy drinks all day.” It sounds a lot like the actor’s Lex Luthor will be more Mark Zuckerberg and less like the DC Comics character. Then again we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Described as a “slimy businessman we can all despise,” a source told Comicbook that Eisenberg’s version of Lex Luthor in the Man of Steel sequel is “much better” when compared to the initial descriptions.
The source said:
“You are going to hate this guy. You are going to root for him to be punched by Superman when he weasels his way out of legal trouble.”
As far as the muscle behind Lex Luthor, he has a security force that’s made up of a mall cop to a SWAT team type of security. As for LexCorp it’s a twist on the high-tech companies that we are to seeing.
The source said, “It’s Apple/Google, colorful and consumer friendly public image but serious potential for Lex’s deviousness.”
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on May 16, 2016.
