The life of a game show host has got to be pretty interesting. Each day, he or she goes to work and cheers on the contestants, giving away cash and prizes for the delectation of viewers everywhere. But don't think this would make these guys bitter, since they are well paid for their efforts, especially if they manage to get their show into syndication. In fact, here is a list of the 21 richest game show hosts of our times. It may be surprising to note that Alex Trebek and Bob Barker, whose title he recently took over, both fall somewhere at its middle.
For those who are not aware, Bob Barker had hosted well over 6500 episodes of The Price is Right, but now Alex Trebek reached 6,829 Friday and earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records, as mentioned here on the Inquisitr, and that is not the only news about game show hosts in the first half of 2014. There was also a large following of people who were interested as it was pointed out that most game show hosts were older male Republicans. This is, of course, not an accurate statement as there are women game show hosts, too.
During both February and March, we lost a couple of well known game show hosts as well. The first, Jim Lange, who hosted The Dating Game, passed away on February 25 after a heart attack, while Geoff Edwards, who hosted "Jackpot" and "Treasure Hunt," died not two weeks later of complications from pneumonia. We're sorry to see these two go, though it's good to know they both lived into their 80's and left loved ones behind to remember them.
I don't know about anyone else, but I remember growing up watching game shows quite a bit, and it's been interesting to witness as they became so popular they even earned their own network. Today, more and more game shows are popping up, some hip and some weird, but I still think Jeopardy is one of the best. Here's to seeing Trebek reach 7,000 and beyond. And as for Bob Barker? If he's going for oldest living former game show host, he's still going strong. Good luck, Bob, we all love you.
