Voice Of Batman Says Arkham Knight Will Be Out In January 2015
One of the most anticipated games in recent memory, Batman: Arkham Knight, may have a tentative release windows at last, as the actor that provides the voice for Batman let slip that the next installment in the Arkham series may see release in January of next year.
Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in the Arkham series, spoke to Groovey TV (h/t Polygon) at the Denver Comicon last week. Conroy gives some fun insights into the process that went into determining the voice of Batman – revealing that the studio went through hundreds of voice actors before settling on Conroy – but the real meat comes at about the 5:10 mark of the interview:
“So what’s coming up next for you?” the interviewer asks. “What are you working on?”
“I have a massive game you may have heard of called Arkham Knight,” Conroy says. “It was supposed to come out in January, we’ve been working on it a year and a half, and it’s still not done. So it’s going to come out next January.”
That’s big news for gamers interested in the next Arkham game, as Rocksteady did not give a date certain for release when the developer delayed Arkham Knight earlier this year. All Rocksteady would point to was a general “2015.”
Conroy could very well have his dates a bit mixed up, as Arkham Knight was originally set for a Fall 2014 release, not January 2014 as he says in the video. Then again, the Batman voice actor could have just gotten ahead of himself.
The Batman: Arkham series has provided hit after hit for Rocksteady since its introduction with Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game has also gotten bigger and bigger with each iteration, and Arkham Knight looks to be the biggest of them all.
The next Arkham game will retain the free-flowing combat style and brutal takedowns that have made the series so popular among gamers. It will also continue to draw upon the decades-long history of Batman for inspiration in its villains, allies, and locales.
Most importantly, Arkham Knight will be huge. The next-gen Arkham title will feature a fully-explorable Gotham City, and it will outfit Batman with a heavily-armed Batmobile with which to explore Gotham’s streets. When the game does see release, PS4 users will be able to access special exclusive content in the form of missions featuring a new, horrifyingly redesigned Scarecrow.
