Dave Chappelle Talks Hilarious Twitter Fight With Katt Williams
Dave Chappelle recently dropped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and spoke about his foray into social media — or at least his attempt at a foray — which ended up in a hilarious Twitter “fight” with fellow comedian Katt Williams.
“I haven’t tweeted in like two years,” he began. “At first I went on Facebook, and they were like, ‘You cannot use celebrity names.'”
Taken aback, Chappelle started exploring and saw that there was a fake Dave Chappelle, who already had a profile, so he decided to send a request.
“And he is not accepting my friend request,” Chappelle said. “Then I go on Twitter, and it’s the same thing. A fake Dave Chappelle. So I started following the guy. And it turned out, Jimmy, the guy was like hilarious.”
The comedian then started living vicariously through his fake self, reveling in the sexy pics that girls would send to fake Dave’s account.
“But a week or two into it, he just turns evil, and he starts tweeting all this stuff to comedians I work with,” Chappelle said, adding that one such comedian was the volatile Katt Williams.
He continued, “So then Katt Williams starts saying things to this fake Dave Chappelle that’s hurting the real Dave Chappelle’s feelings.”
The “fight” came to a head at a Def Jam comedy show. For the rest, check out the clip and fast forward to about the 1:25 mark, or watch it from the beginning. (After all, Dave’s a lot funnier than we are.)
Dave Chappelle reportedly turned down $50 million to do a third season of his groundbreaking sketch comedy series, Chappelle Show.
Since that time, he’s kept a low profile, but has recently come back into the public eye with this appearance and a previous sit-down with David Letterman.
In the Fallon appearance, Chappelle also shared a classic story of how he met Kanye West that’ll make you think epic thoughts about both popular personalities. (Hat tip to Time magazine for that part of the story.)
Hopefully, one day we’ll get to see Dave Chappelle do something similar to his classic series — or perhaps an extra season — but until that time his tour dates will have to do.
His next show will be on June 18 at Radio City Music Hall in New York. He’ll be there until June 26, and will be joined by Nas, The Roots, Busta Rhymes, DJ Premier, Janelle Monae, and Erykah Badu.
