KFC is paying some of a girl’s medical bills after learning that the 3-year-old was asked to leave one of their restaurants because of her injuries. According to People Magazine, KFC cooperate is giving $30,000 to Victoria Wilcher’s family to help with medical bills they have after a pit bull attacked the toddler and left her face paralyzed, scratched up, and scarred. The company has decided to help the family financially after learning that they were disrespected and mistreated at a Mississippi KFC.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, this news story first came to light last week when Wilcher and her family went to grab dinner at a KFC in Jackson. The young girl — who is embarrassed to even go outside because of the way she looks — was on a feeding tube and her mother thought that she’d be able to easily swallow mashed potatoes, which made KFC a great meal option. Within minutes of being inside the eatery, an employee asked the mother to leave with her child because the little girl’s face was “disrupting other customers.”
KFC’s decision to help with the girl’s medical bills was announced by spokesman Rick Maynard in an email to The Associated Press on Sunday:
“As soon as we were notified of this report on Friday, we immediately began an investigation, as this kind of hurtful and disrespectful action would not be tolerated by KFC. Regardless of the outcome of our investigation, we have apologized to Victoria’s family and are committed to assisting them. The company is making a $30,000 donation to assist with her medical bills. The entire KFC family is behind Victoria.”
It’s certainly nice that KFC is offering to pay the girl’s bills, but, interestingly enough, the Wilcher family says that they have not been told that they would be receiving money from KFC. Apparently they found out about it the same way you did — online (the “this” refers to Maynard’s announcement above):
“Although the family has not been personally told this, KFC has posted this on their Facebook page.”
The Wilcher family will more than likely credit KFC when they receive the money. The family has been contacted by so many people over the past week and the outpouring of support has been incredible. Another Mississippi KFC franchisee, Dick West, offered to throw the entire Wilcher family a picnic. No word on whether or not the Wilchers will be accepting his offer.
