Neil Patrick Harris Celebrates Father’s Day And Invites You To Choose His Life Path
Neil Patrick Harris is having quite the year. With a Tony win for Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a new autobiography, and the series finale of How I Met Your Mother, it seems the stars are simply shining on the actor.
The universe may agree, since today the dates aligned so Harris is celebrating Father’s Day and his 41st birthday.
Birthday wishes aside, it’s the unique gift Harris’ partner David Burtka gave Neil that got a write up on the ABC News site today. The couple’s home will now feature a monkey candelabra, purchased from the website Essential Man. The site states it has a “super-smart search tool that matches product options based on personality traits.”
The monkeys are in the “hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil” poses. ABC also reported that Neil also gave Burtka a Father’s Day gift, specifically desk accessories made from water buffalo horn.
Earlier this month, when Harris received the Drama Desk Award for his turn in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, he thanked David for his role in Neil’s success:
[T]hank you so much for your love and for your patience and your sacrifice in all that you do. And I can’t wait for the opportunity soon when these roles get to be reversed and I get to cheer you on up here doing what you do so well.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Neil Patrick Harris will be replaced in Hedwig by actor Andrew Rannells later this year.
Neil is also chatting up his family in his new autobiography. Written in the style of the children’s book series Choose Your Own Adventure, Harris takes a comedic turn when describing how things manifest for him and Burtka on the home front. Case in point, he explains why the couple’s two children, twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, 4, call him “Papa” and Burtka “Daddy”:
You find it a more convenient system of nomenclature than ‘Daddy 1’ or ‘Daddy 2’ or ‘Sinners A and B[.]’
Neil also calls his daughter a shameless flirt, and that “[s]he has a boyfriend in her preschool class whom she is going to marry.”
As for utilizing the Choose Your Own Adventure style for the new book, the autobiography’s official site goes to great lengths to excite the reader at the prospect:
[A]t each critical juncture of your life you will choose how to proceed. You will decide whether to try out for ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.’ You will decide whether to spend years struggling with your sexuality. You will decide what kind of caviar you want to eat on board Elton John’s yacht.
Neil further cautions readers “[c]hoose incorrectly and you’ll find misery, heartbreak, and a guest stint on ‘Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.'”
Looks like Neil Patrick Harris chose the right path.
