UALR Baseball Coach Resigns After Expletive-Laden Meltdown

University of Arkansas at Little Rock baseball coach Scott Norwood has resigned from his position after Deadspin obtained audio of the coach having an expletive-laden meltdown on his players — following a win (Deadspin‘s audio player cannot be embedded. You’ll need to click over to the site to listen to the full recording).

Deadspin reports the recording of the UALR coach hurling expletives at his baseball team was made following the team’s victory over Southeast Missouri State University in February of this year.

“Despite the team’s 4-0 record to that point, Norwood was furious about, well, everything. At one point, you can hear what sounds like the coach knocking stuff around; we were told it was a pile of garbage from a nearby park, including beer cans and used condoms. ‘This sh*t right here, Stringer, is all your sh*t, right?’ he says, probably to pitcher Cody Stringer. ‘Huh? That’s—all of this sh*t that you f*cking can’t take your f*cking little p*ssy-*ss out there to pick up…’ (One player told us that Norwood had a thing about neatness. He would “be more concerned about picking grass out of the warning track so the field looks good to the other teams coming in [than] about how to beat them,” the player said.)”

Another quote from Deadspin shows the now-former UALR coach berating a player with expletives because he apparently wasn’t paying enough attention to Norwood’s expletive-filled meltdown in the locker room.

“‘Hey, Travis,’ Norwood says at one point in the recording, apparently talking to pitcher Travis McDonald. ‘I’m right f*cking here.’

“‘I’m looking right at you,’ someone, apparently McDonald, responds.

“‘You know you aren’t—don’t you f*cking talk back to me today. Get—hey, you wanna look down, then get the f*ck out of here. I’ll find someone else to pitch tomorrow. You wanna f*cking go now? There’s the f*cking door, son. Get the f*ck out if you don’t like it.'”

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Norwood resigned his position as UALR’s baseball coach on Monday (June 9) after an internal investigation after allegations of physical and sexual harassment, though weirdly the investigation proved no wrongdoing on Norwood’s part. Instead, the Dem-Gaz said Norwood resigned from UALR “to pursue other opportunities.”

Deadspin points out an interesting tidbit regarding UALR’s baseball team and its esteemed former coach:

“That UALR player also cited the brawl that occurred during his team’s game against [University of] Central Arkansas on April 2.

“He blamed Norwood for provoking the fight, and said the coach ‘flopped’ when touched by a UCA coach and player. He also noted that no players came to Norwood’s rescue after he was knocked down.”

A YouTube video of that fight is embedded below.

At least Norwood only had his meltdown in a locker room instead of doing it in front of a bunch of paparazzi (NSFW Video).
