Disney Announces ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Live-Action Film: Will Kristen Stewart Be Cast As Belle?
Disney has announced that they will be making a live-action film from the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. According to People magazine, the success of Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent has encouraged production of more live-action films. Already announced and said to be in the works are The Little Mermaid, directed by Sofia Coppola, Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau. This is great news for Disney movie-lovers!
Naturally casting is a very big part of these films, and so far Disney has picked some great leads for their live-action films. As far as upcoming films go, Harry Potter actress is rumored to be a frontrunner for Ariel in The Little Mermaid and Kristen Stewart is reportedly up for the running as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Fans have mixed opinions on both choices.
Disney has not, however, confirmed any casting news. Since the directors of the films have been named, speculators put actors’ names in the mix. For example, Sofia Coppola wrote and produced The Bling Ring starring Emma Watson. The two could easily team up for The Little Mermaid because they have a great relationship. The same goes for Beauty and the Beast. The live-action movie will be directed by Bill Condon. He directed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 & 2 which starred Kristen Stewart. This is more than likely how her name got thrown into the mix. Interestingly enough, no one has mentioned Robert Pattinson’s name (yet).
Kristen Stewart is already tied to Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman (via The Inquisitr) which means that playing Belle in the Disney film might not work with her schedule. However, many Twilight fans would love to see her take on the role.
Disney may want a bigger star for the lead and could go with someone like Shailene Woodley (The Fault in our Stars) or Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones). According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, the lead actress has to be someone well-known but also someone who is perfect for the role. Disney wouldn’t have it any other way. Of course, there will have to be a great supporting cast as well, and that’s going to take some time to come together.
Who do you think would be a good choice to play Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast? Are you excited that this popular fairy tale is being brought to life?
