Luigi Death Stare Meme Helps ‘Mario Kart 8’ Maintain The Fast Lane
The Luigi death stare meme is evidence that Nintendo’s latest racing title could keep them in the fast lane for a few more miles down the road. It isn’t very often that a new game spawns a meme, but with Nintendo’s attention to detail and the instant upload capabilities of the Wii U, Luigi is outshining Mario as an apparently very angry Mario brother.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the moment when Luigi takes you out with a turtle shell is accompanied with a stare that shows he’s not happy with you. The ensuing glare was combined with the popular Chamillionaire hip hop song “Ridin’ Dirty” to give Mario’s less famous brother the spotlight. Nintendo probably didn’t plan it that way, but it is definitely going to keep Mario Kart 8 on the list of must-play titles for viral video seekers over the next month or two.
There is one thing some of us still wonder about the Luigi death stare meme: Does Guile’s theme go with it?
Having sold over 1 million copies in its first weekend and boosting sales of the Nintendo Wii U, the meme could easily keep the momentum going strong. Nintendo just needs to keep making games with that level of detail and hope for that gameplay moment that the internet can’t get enough of.
If you’re still wondering what a meme is, it usually begins with a video clip that the internet can’t seem to get enough of, or a memorable still image from a movie or TV show. After it becomes famous, it’s added to a database and would-be comedians add captions to the images. Cats were among the first memes to hit the internet with their universally adorable videos and poses, and eventually Willy Wonka and YouTube’s Laina (overly attached girlfriend) were among the probably thousands added to the mix.
Nintendo can only win if their Mario Kart 8 moment stays popular. Do you have any favorite Luigi death stare memes?
