Ian Somerhalder Opens Up About His ‘Vampire Diaries’ Regrets
Ian Somerhalder regrets not spending enough time with some of his Vampire Diaries co-stars. Note: This article contains a few spoilers, so please refrain from moving forward if you’re not completely up-to-date with the series.
The actor recently teased the fate of Damon Salvatore in a post on Instagram, a photo that led some to believe that Somerhalder is bidding farewell to the show. However, some websites believe that both Damon and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) are reportedly destined to spend quite a bit of time together after disappearing into oblivion.
Although Ian Somerhalder recently said he regrets not spending a lot of time with Graham during his stint on The Vampire Diaries, there’s a chance he’ll get to correct that situation in the near future. Should Damon and Bonnie appear in the next season of the popular series, chances are they’re going to have a lot of time to get to know one another.

During a chat with his Brazilian fans, Moviepilot reports that Ian opened up about his biggest regret in regards to the series. Here’s what he had to say:
“What I was mostly saddened about is that I didn’t spend all this time with Katerina Graham, because she is not only my sister but she’s one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood.”
If you’re wondering what happened to Damon and Bonnie during the recent season finale of Vampire Diaries, then you’ve essentially fallen into showrunner Julie Plec’s trap. She recently told Entertainment Weekly that the whole scenario was specifically designed to leave viewers questioning the fate of Ian Somerhalder and Katerina Graham.
She told the publication:
“I can say for certain the Other Side is gone for good, and I can say for certain that when the Other Side disappeared for good that they had already been dealt with — whether it’s through finding peace or other means. Outside of that [laughs], I think I’ll let the speculation blow around for a little while longer.”
Even Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev has absolutely no idea what happened during the season 5 finale. In fact, the actress said that Plec and the writers are keeping the cast in the dark about season 6 for the moment.
Dobrev explained:
“To be honest with you, I haven’t seen the last couple of episodes because I was on location filming. But I think Stefan (Paul Wesley) died in the second to last episode, and then Damon (Ian Somerhalder) died in the last episode. I think I survived, I don’t know! I mean, I really don’t know what is going to happen, they don’t tell us. I’m in the dark as much as you guys all are.”
Do you think Ian Somerhalder is coming back for the next season of The Vampire Diaries?
