WWE News: Roman Reigns Taking On Bigger Stature, Could Face Triple H At SummerSlam

Roman Reigns suffered a WWE betrayal on Monday Night Raw, with Seth Rollins turning on him, but despite the crushing backstabbing, it seems that WWE has big plans for Reigns in the future.

Sources have indicated that the WWE sees great star potential in the 6-foot-3, 260-pound wrestler, believing he can fill the void left by the departure of Batista. That was seen on Sunday’s Payback event, when Reigns scored the deciding fall against Triple H.

The fact that Triple H would allow his group to be swept in a main Pay Per View event is seen as a sign that he and the WWE see big potential in Roman Reigns.

“You are effectively telling the audience that your opponents were the better men, and that’s exactly the idea,” wrote Dan Marsigilia of Rant Sports . “Triple H wants the ‘WWE Universe’ to accept the Shield, and especially Reigns, as main event players. It’s both an unselfish act and a smart business decision.”

Monday’s betrayal at the hands of Seth Rollins could indicate the beginning of a bigger storyline for Roman Reigns.

The blog Cageside Seats recounted the events:

“This came after Batista quit WWE in the opening segment when Triple H had said he wouldn’t stop until he won the fight against The Shield. Later, a match was booked between Reigns and Randy Orton for the main event.”

“It was there that Triple H said, ‘Plan A didn’t work but there’s always a Plan B.’ At that point, Rollins took a chair and blasted Reigns in the back.”

Roman Reigns has already stood out for his WWE star potential. Insiders see him as a capable star with a big ring presence and even bigger potential. Though his work is still mostly with The Shield, Reigns has started to work some main event singles events, though so far they have been limited primarily to house shows and not yet on television.

But now, rumors have emerged that Roman Reigns could make his big singles debut at SummerSlam in a headline match against Triple H himself.

While the WWE clearly wants Roman Reigns taking on a bigger stature, those plans may have to take a break, at least for a little while. The wrestler reportedly suffered a torn triceps at Sunday’s Payback event, and one fan snapped a picture of Reigns outside the Allstate Arena in obvious pain.
