Mariah Carey Divorce: Singer Avoids Addressing Rumors Of Unrest With Nick Cannon
Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon have faced divorce rumors for months, but when the singer sat down for an interview with Matt Lauer, she seemed to do everything she could to avoid the topic.
Carey met with Lauer for an NBC segment that touched on her family life. When asked about her “emotional state,” Mariah gave a long but content-free answer that purposely avoided the topic of divorce.
“Look, I’ve always been a pretty vulnerable person,” she said. “But I built up — I have learned how to build up a wall. So when I have to, I can put up that wall, and leave it there, and walk in the other direction. And that’s what I have to do sometimes with people in my life when they just don’t get it, that I’m a person like them.”
While Mariah might be keeping quiet about her marriage, her husband certainly is not. Nick Cannon has addressed the divorce rumors before, and always flatly denied reports of trouble with wife Mariah Carey.
“You kind of have to ignore it because every week it’s something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you,” he told Parade magazine. “It’s kind of humorous, really. It couldn’t be further off from the truth, and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers.”
If Mariah and Nick were really headed for divorce, they are certainly doing a good job covering it up. The couple recently celebrated a romantic anniversary together.
“We definitely had a good time. The first part of the day, we threw a birthday for them and their friends at their school, and then after that, once we tired all the kids out, we had a nice romantic rooftop evening and kind of re-enacted some of our wedding and engagement rituals that we do every year,” Cannon said.
While she is remaining tight-lipped on the divorce rumors, Mariah Carey was still making headlines this week. On Thursday night she headed out to the Fresh Air Fund gala, and then hopped onto a subway train with her friend Jermaine Dupri.
Some curious onlookers snapped pictures of Mariah Carey sitting on the train while wearing her full-length gown, and Mariah even shared a picture of it on Instagram.
