Lorde Loves Justin Bieber’s ‘Looking For You’ Ft. Migos: ‘Truly Great’
Lorde bestows high praise on Justin Bieber’s surprise new song “Looking For You” featuring Atlanta rap trio, Migos. The New Zealand singer described it as “truly great” and “truly transcendent.”
Who knew Lorde would appreciate the booty shaking charms of “Looking For You,” the new Justin Bieber and Migos collaboration that took the Internet by storm late Thursday?
The 17-year-old Kiwi star, who is currently on tour, took to Twitter on Saturday to share her unequivocal praise for the R&B banger that’s got everybody talking.
“fffff**k this new bieber ‘looking for you’ is truly great,” Lorde tweeted.

The “Royals” songstress also singled out the Canadian’s topline and signature synths in the dramatic pre-hook for mention.
that prechorus melody is truly transcendent

Lorde isn’t alone in showing love to Bieber’s unexpected pair-up with on fire ATL trio Migos.
Within one hour of Bieber stealth-dropping “Looking For You” on SoundCloud, Twitter blew up with users gushing over the track.

Likewise, there’s been an overwhelmingly positive response from the music press and wider media to Bieber’s swaggy search-for-the-perfect-girl-in-a-club meets riotous Migos raps.
Among the crop, Rolling Stone wrote that the track showed the “singer continues to mature musically.” XXL named it one of its best songs of the week, while Revolt TV noted Bieber’s “consistently amazing [ability] at making R&B-accented hip-hop anthems.”

More praise can be seen in numerous Twitter and Instagram posts by the young icon’s pals, DJ’s and music producers.
In the past, Lorde hasn’t come across as being into either Bieber’s music or his brand. Last year, while also making critical comments about Selena Gomez and (now) pal Taylor Swift, the outspoken singer told MTV News:
“I feel like the influences that are there in the industry for people my age, like Justin Bieber or whatever, are just maybe not a very real depiction of what it’s like to be a young person.”
Fast forward to now, given that Bieber hasn’t — to our knowledge — made any great claims to having a normal life, it’s possible the reason Lorde and critics have mostly loved “Looking For You” is because it honestly reflects Bieber’s hedonist/sensual persona, as seen during his recent Cannes-Monaco whirl.
“Hey, where the party at? Lets go / Where the swag? Lets roll / Yea, everywhere I go, them girls follow,” he sings on the track.
“Tonight might be the night, you might mess around and fall in love / And I might be the guy that’ll make you wanna fall in love again.”
So it’s gold stars from Billboard’s Top New Artist, amid talk from collaborator T-Pain that the Biebs’ in-progress Journals follow-up is “the best R&B music” he has heard “in years.”
Perhaps Ernest Baker’s 2013 essay wasn’t only powerful, but prescient.
