Elliot Rodger: Gun Control Laws Already Linked To The Santa Barbara Shooting Suspect

In the case of Elliot Rodger and the Santa Barbara shooting, gun control laws are already being proposed as a solution to the problem of mass shootings.

[UPDATE] Police have reported the circumstances of Rodger’s guns . Politicians have also already suggested toughening California’s gun control laws in addition to laws at the Federal level.

In a related report by The Inquisitr , a family member of the shooter has been confirmed to be a Hunger Games second unit director . Reports about Elliot’s Asperger’s syndrome diagnosis and his mental illness have already begun to spread, making it almost inevitable that the connection to Adam Lanza and the Sandy Hook shooting will be made.

In the case of Adam Lanza, gun control also became a hot topic with many politicians promising to pass as many gun control laws as possible in order to supposedly stop these types of mass shootings. Gun control supporters in the media did not wait more than 24 hours before making the same connection to the Isla Vista shooting. For example, Complex writes:

“Of course, this young man was very, very sick, but it’s not enough to approach this tragedy as though it’s an isolated incident. For one thing, how many more shootings do we need before we take gun control seriously?”

But when police investigated Elliot Rodger, they did not find any history of guns, which is very different from Nancy Lanza, who owned many weapons. The Rodger family is the exact opposite and is “staunchly against guns,” saying they are “extremely, extremely upset that anybody was hurt under these circumstances.” The family is even said to support gun control laws.

The other difference between Lanza and Rodger is the type of weapons. Gun control advocates and 2nd amendment supporters argued over whether or not so-called “assault weapons” played a role. In this case, Elliot Rodger’s gun was simply described as a handgun. While details about the type of weapon haven’t been released yet, CNN reports police are trying to track it down:

“U.S. law enforcement officials said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and FBI were assisting local police in the investigation, including trying to trace the handgun used and where the suspect obtained it. Agents were on the scene to offer firearms expertise in tracing all details about the weapon using ATF’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, according to the agency.”

What do you think about the family of Elliot Rodger already linking gun control and Asperger’s syndrome to the Santa Barbara shooting?
