Elio Motors have designed a lean, mean, American-made three-wheeled vehicle soon to be on the market, per Shreveport Times. If you haven’t yet heard of the Elio, then consider yourself about to be amazed. Elio Motors wanted to develop a vehicle that would deliver “a whole new driving experience,” per ElioMotors.com. And that is exactly what they have done.

First and foremost, it is an American-made vehicle. Bringing jobs into the US was important to the manufacturer. The top notch former General Motors (home of the Hummer) plant in Louisiana is where it all began. Elio Motors describes their vehicle as about half the width of a normal car, but has a longer wheel-base than that of a Honda Accord.

Be ready to drop your jaw on this next bit of information. The Elio has an 8 gallon tank. This magnificent vehicle gets 84 miles per gallon. That means, after doing the math, you can get over 672 miles per tank. Who else can offer that? No one currently.

“Sure,” you say. “But I bet it moves about as fast as a golf cart, right?” Wrong. The Elio can gain up to over 100 miles per hour. How is that for putting your pedal to the metal?

If safety is a concern for you, let’s nip that in the bud, as well. According to Elio Motors, the panels are made of a very strong composite material, and it also encompasses a reinforced roll cage. The Elio also has three air bags, disc brakes with ABS, three point harness safety restraints and a 50 percent larger crush zone. Safety is one of the company’s highest priorities in developing the vehicle, which is why it has a 5 star safety rating.

If you think you have to give up comfort and style for gas mileage and safety, think again. The Elio is amazing in it’s eye appeal. It has an AM/FM stereo radio, cool air and heating systems, power windows and door locks, and you can even choose from a manual or an automatic transmission. The Elio also has a 3 year/36K mile warranty.

There is a back seat in the Elio, and the back seat can also fold down for extra room, if needed. This is a perfect vehicle for a weekend getaway, running errands around town, dropping your child off at school, a sprint to the golf course, and so much more.
