Rory McIlroy Ends Engagement To Caroline Wozniacki, Claims He ‘Isn’t Ready For Marriage’
Rory McIlroy claims he “isn’t ready for all that marriage entails” and ended his engagement to longtime tennis player girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki, after the couple sent wedding invitations over the weekend.
In a short statement, via his Dublin rep, McIlroy said he was speaking publicly after discussing the end of his engagement to Wozniacki and started off saying, “The problem is mine” and added:
“The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.”
“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”
McIlroy and Wozniacki — the No. 15 ranked tennis player in the world — have been dating since 2011 and he proposed in a romantic setting in Sydney, Australia on New Year’s Eve, 2013.
Only three-days-ago, McIlroy tweeted about having dinner with his-now ex-fiancée:

Four days later, there seemed to be no problems with Rory’s engagement, when the British golfer retweeted this:
I wonder how many people have a photo taken with @McIlroyRory and have @CaroWozniacki photobombing?!! #legends pic.twitter.com/smgoQ6FjxO

At the Masters, early last month, things seemed so good that Caroline Wozniacki — who was McIlroy’s caddie — dyed her hair pink, after Rory allegedly convinced her to do it, so it would match the azaleas at Augusta.

There has been no comment from Wozniacki thus far and, despite the end of the engagement, McIlroy appeared at a press conference saying he was looking forward to the BMW Championship at the Wentworth Club near London.

The sudden split isn’t making McIlroy any friends in social media with some questioning the ill timing of his decision to end his engagement to Wozniacki.

And some are even speculating about who the golfer’s next girlfriend will be:

Interestingly, Rory McIlroy’s Twitter avatar still has a photo of him and Caroline Wozniacki during the time they were engaged.
