The season 18 Dancing With the Stars winners were announced Tuesday night, and many fans were betting that Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis would take home the mirror-ball trophy. Maksim and Meryl had been favored all season, but were they able to secure the win in the end?
As DWTS season 18 began, few would have laid down bets that it would be Candace Cameron Bure, Amy Purdy and Meryl Davis as the three left standing on Tuesday night’s finale. After some surprise exits, particularly that of Charlie White, it ended with an all-female celebrity finale. It was a fairly tight race, but most figured it was Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy as the couple to beat.
Us Weekly shared the Dancing With the Stars results that were dished out in Tuesday’s season 18 finale. As many fans predicted, Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas came in third place. The DWTS fans loved the Full House star’s passion and emotion this season. Though she may not have been the best dancer, she put her heart into her performances and many are thrilled she was able to make it this far.
Amy Purdy and Derek Hough inspired DWTS viewers all season, even more so after Amy pushed through an injury late in the season. Many were hoping they could pull an upset and send the mirror-ball trophy home with Amy. In the end, however, the season 18 Dancing With the Stars winners were Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and GossipCop shared the moment of the announcement. This is Maks’ first win after participating in 14 of the show’s 18 seasons.
After Monday night’s performances, Maks and Meryl had a perfect score, and they earned another perfect score in their last dance on Tuesday. The judges raved about Chmerkovskiy and Davis all season long, and judge Carrie Ann Inaba teased them Monday night she wants them to go ahead and get married. Maks was even seen in a highlight reel joking that he wants to “ravage” his partner and create “big, ice-dancing” babies.
While fans love the idea of a Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis romance, at this point it appears that it’s friendship and professionalism that is really at the heart of this partnership. Could more transpire off the dance floor, like many expect to see happen between James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd? Nobody knows for certain, but DWTS fans will definitely be watching.
What did you think of the season 18 Dancing With the Stars winner announcement? Were you rooting for Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis to take home the mirror-ball trophy?
