Ryan Murphy Says ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Will Be ‘Terrifyingly Dark’
For the American Horror Story fans who are excited to get scared again, creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that the show’s upcoming season will have the same feel as “the ‘Asylum’ season.”
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy discussed how the concept for American Horror Story: Freak Show has been one that he and Jessica Lange “talked about really early on.”
“It was always her favorite one, which I thought was funny,” he said.
Murphy added that he had sent many versions of Freak Show to Lange, and, so far, he loves working on the version on which they settled.
“It feels really right,” he said. “I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark.”
As for the characters that will be appearing in American Horror Story: Freak Show, Murphy said one is being called the “Clown Killer.”
“If you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark,” he added.
Murphy noted that this clown in Freak Show will be “the most terrifying clown ever.”
Murphy also mentioned that the new season of American Horror Story will have a bearded lady, which is one of the most well-known acts. But it will be “our version of it,” he confirmed.
Aside from Lange, a lot of the character details for the new season of American Horror Story are sparse. International Business Times has a list of the actors set to appear, and it also mentions what is known so far about each one.
It is known that Lange will be the German ex-pat who manages the show, and Denis O’Hare will play the “collector of freaks.” Others like Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Angela Bassett are listed as performers, but no information is given beyond that.
Michael Chiklis is one of the newcomers to American Horror Story, and he will be playing the ex-husband of Bates’ character. But he is not listed as a performer.
Now that Murphy revealed there will be a bearded lady in American Horror Story: Freak Show, who will play the role?
Paulson said she’s working on a “very special skill” for this season, so it doesn’t seem like she will play the part.
Bates could possibly be playing the bearded lady. It is also known that Peters will be playing her son, so they could be doing a duo act.
Bassett said she doesn’t know yet about her role in American Horror Story: Freak Show. But a recent report from The Inquisitr stated that she will not be playing the bearded lady.
The speculation continues, American Horror Story fans.
American Horror Story: Freak Show will premiere on FX sometime in the fall.
