Carrie Fisher has lost 40 pounds ahead of Star Wars: Episode VII , according to the actress’ mother, Debbie Reynolds.

Reynolds, who is herself a bona-fide Hollywood icon, made the revelation during a discussion with Extra’s Mario Lopez, where the actress noted that her daughter had to undergo a strict diet to make the transformation.

“She’s been on a diet ever since [she was re-cast],” Reynolds proclaimed. “Because you have to be up to par, so he looks terrific, she lost 40 pounds. She’s very excited, as well are, because we love Star Wars.

Of course, Fisher wowed the movie world in 1983’s Return Of The Jedi when she donned a metal bikini, which helped to confirm her status as a generation of boys’ first crush.

Previously, Fisher joked that she was glad there was a new movie because it would get her fit again. “I’m glad their doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape,” she explained.

However, she also noted that she went on a bit of an eating binge before she finally began her sessions. “I’m really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see,” she told the crowd at Calgary Comic Expo last year. “By the time I really get down to it, I will have eaten everything.”

It’s safe to say that she won’t be quite as hedonistic on-set as she was during the original trilogy’s filming though. Back in 2010 Fisher admitted that she took copious amount of drugs while working on the films, recalling, “We did cocaine on the set of [The] Empire [Strikes Back], in the ice planet. I didn’t even like coke that much. It was just a case of getting on whatever train I need to take to get high.”

Her life of excess soon began to catch up with her, and even John Belushi, who perished in 1982 of a drug overdose, told her that she had a problem. In the past she has stated, “Slowly I realised I was doing a bit more drugs than other people and losing my choice in the matter.”

In fact she believes that if she had been addicted to alcohol she would be dead already, because you are able to simply just go out and purchase booze on the street.

Fisher will star alongside her old Star Wars cohorts Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, as well as a hoard of new acting talents, in the hugely anticipated seventh instalment to the sci-fi behemoth, which is due out in December 2015.
