Pharrell Williams ‘Didn’t Expect Any Medals’ During The Grammys
Pharrell Williams didn’t have any lofty expectations when he attended this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony.
Out of the seven nominations the “Happy” singer received, Williams walked away with four trophies. Pharrell was understandably thrilled about the situation, particularly since he didn’t go into the event assuming he would bring anything home.
During his chat with W magazine, Pharrell Williams opened up about the honors he received during Grammy night. Although he’s responsible for bringing these tunes to life, the producer said a lot of the credit belongs to the fans who embraced his music with open arms.

“I was genuinely shocked by Grammy night. I had been happy running this career marathon. I didn’t expect any medals,” Pharrell told the publication.
He added, “I was particularly amazed when I went backstage after winning the first Grammy and one of my managers told me that my hat now had its own Twitter account. During the show, a fan started tweeting as my hat.”
Proving that he’s a pretty humble guy, Pharrell Williams said that his fans are completely responsible for the success he’s recently enjoyed. The singer explained, “It’s nice to be number one but that’s not my doing. You can get so much more done by giving people respect. The people did this. Everything that I own my fans paid for.”
He continued, “I’m happy that the people can see that I’m staying loyal to that because they don’t have to support me, but they do.”

Pharrell Williams also made it a point to thank his legion of fans after accepting the Innovator Award at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards. The singer was clearly overwhelmed by emotion during his appearance at the event.
He told those in attendance:
“I never dreamed in a million, million, million years that, as a producer, I’d be standing here as an artist… All I did was write the songs, and you guys did all the heavy lifting, all the hard work, all those billions of views on YouTube, all that calling in… thank you guys for lifting me so high! Thank you guys so, so much!”
