Alanis Morissette Writes Catchy Song To Get You To Vote For Congressional Candidate
Alanis Morissette is well-known for songs about spurned love, not-exactly irony, and hands in her pockets, but now she can add to her repertoire theme songs for congressional candidates according to E!
Marianne Williamson, who is running for Congress in California, called on her good friend Alanis to write a song to help propel her campaign. The song is supposed to help people see how Williamson will improve people’s lives in California. The message isn’t exactly groudbreaking, but the fact that Morrissette wrote it specifically for a campaign is a new twist.
So why exactly did Alanis Morissette feel passionate enough to write the song? Here is what Morissette said in a statement:
“I was attempting to capture the passion, mission, activism, deep humanity and tenderness of Marianne, the new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it. Recording at Sunset Sound with my bandmates, Marianne came by and visited. We all huddled together as the song was recorded. I love this song. I love this woman, and I love a world that would vote for her.”
Sounds nice. For her part, Williamson appears to be very happy with the song Alanis wrote as well. Here’s what she wrote on her website:
“Alanis Morissette has produced a masterpiece. I have never heard a song more powerfully describe this moment in our history, or more lovingly call forth our generation’s genius from the ashes of our pain. With her inimitable musical alchemy, Alanis has provided an anthem for our audacious quest to get America back on track.”
Of course, Alanis Morrissette isn’t the first celebrity to endorse Williamson. In fact, in addition to Alanis, she has garnered endorsements from celebrities like Jane Lynch, Eva Longoria, and even a purple-haired Nicole Richie.
Morissette is no stranger to political activism. Many of her songs over the years have either had political undertones or have been overtly political.
It will be interesting to see how people react to the song Alanis wrote. It also will be interesting to see if this starts a trend of musicians writing songs for political candidates.
Politicians have long been using music at campaign rallies and during commercials to garner support from potential voters, but having an artist like Alanis Morissette write a song specifically for a campaign is a new venture.
What do you think of the new song by Alanis Morissette? Would knowing Alanis Morissette wrote a song for a congressional candidate make you more likely to vote for that candidate?
