Cameron Diaz Continues To Defy Hollywood Stereotypes

Cameron Diaz has been making the news lately for her down-to-earth personality, atypical of Hollywood leading ladies. In recent months, Diaz has become increasingly more outspoken about the less glamorous parts of being human and less ashamed to show her casual side.

Just yesterday, The Daily Mail reported that Cameron Diaz had gone on a hike with fellow celebrity Nicole Richie. Cameron was seen wearing a red tank top, black leggings, a fanny pack, and no noticeable makeup. While it’s obvious the hike was helping Cameron keep her incredibly slim figure, it’s not every day that Hollywood stars are seen shedding their eyeliner and designer clothes for a sweaty stroll with a friend.

The hike isn’t the only evidence of Cameron’s realistic mentality. Diaz recently appeared on the Dr. Oz show to talk about something you won’t find many big screen beauties daring to bring to up. In this video from Aol.On, Diaz joins Dr. Oz in sharing advice about bowel movements, including how to cleanse your digestive system and how to identify, by size and texture, whether or not you’re eating enough fiber.

After the release of her book The Body Book, Cameron Diaz also made appearances on television talking about the touchy subject of self-image. She appeared on the Graham Norton Show to talk about body hair and warn against the permanent solution of laser hair removal. Cameron has discussed everything from “lady bits” to acne. “I mean, I had terrible, terrible, skin,” Diaz told Us Weekly. “It was embarrassing, and I did everything I could think of to make it go away. I tried to cover it with makeup. I tried to get rid of it with medication: oral, topical, even the harshest prescriptions. Nothing helped for very long.”

It’s not Cameron’s irreverence about taboo topics that makes her such a rare specimen of fame, but the obvious passion she feels for health and hygiene, as well as the importance she seems to place on frank honesty. Diaz is quickly becoming a loud and proud voice advocating for open and honest discourse about the issues that make us uncomfortable. She has even delved into the realm of sex, having recently stated that she doesn’t think it’s natural for humans to be monogamous.

Perhaps it’s Cameron’s comfort in her own skin that has made her such a successful actress, or perhaps her brazen opinions are simply an attempt to gain more public attention. Either way, it appears that Cameron’s positive message is being heard. She recently replied to the tweet of a fan who claimed The Body Book had done her a lot of good:
