The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Green Goblin moment in the end was something comic book fans were expecting, but newcomers to the franchise might not have known. There was a death in Peter Parker’s life that helped solidify him as a hero, and you’ll have to read further down to know whose death we’re talking about.
It’s pretty obvious at this point that Sony is not playing it safe any more with the most recognized superhero in Marvel history. Wolverine might be iconic, but it’s Stan Lee’s own Spider-Man who everybody knows from even the comic strips in the newspaper. The web-slinging hero has probably seen more animated series than any other character in Marvel history, and has the most dedicated list of villains for a single character.
After the Lizard was taken out in the first film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 brought back Green Goblin alongside Electro and Rhino, giving Spider-Man more trouble than most can handle alone. Rhino was barely even in the film, and Electro was killed off in the end, eliminating one of the most famous of the Sinister Six for the spinoff. Green Goblin left an impression that made him one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, following the death of Uncle Ben with something that will hopefully not have Peter Parker doing an “emo dance” in the next film.

We will probably see Mary Jane Watson in the next film, due to the events in this one which mirror those of the comics. The story arc is called “The Night Gwen Stacy Died,” and it happened almost exactly the way older fans remembered it. In an attempt to save her, Spider-Man shot a web after she was thrown off the bridge by Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain Green Goblin. Instead of saving her life, the web catch snaps her neck and he’s left dealing with the idea that nothing he could have done would have made a difference. Gwen Stacy would have died anyway.
John Romita was the man who decided to go with the comic book story arc instead of the alternative, having Aunt May killed off. For now, we only know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ‘s Green Goblin plot resulted in the death of Gwen Stacy.
What do you think will happen in the next film? Could Mary Jane Watson make an appearance in the next one?
