As for those who are new to this WWE pay-per-view, WWE Extreme Rules 2014 is the sixth consecutive event in the annual pay-per-view series, WWEExtreme Rules. It is considered the official continuation of One Night Stand, which started out as a special pay-per-view event bringing back the talent of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) for supposedly one night only. The inaugural pay-per-view, titled ECW One Night Stand back in 2005, re-introduced matches underneath the “Extreme Rules” stipulation. This includes no disqualifications, no count outs, foreign objects can be used as weaponry, and the match is not limited to the ring.
WWE Extreme Rules was started back in 2009. Since then, regular matches, along with other matches of a similar “extreme rules” nature, such as steel cage matches, were introduced. This may be to prevent injuries. Nevertheless, this is probably the only pay-per-view where “Extreme Rules” matches will occur since WWE now has specialty matches limited to their own specific pay-per-view. Hell in a Cell matches are only shown at WWE Hell in a Cell and Elimination Chamber matches are only shown at WWE Elimination Chamber.
WWE Extreme Rules 2014, taking place at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will start officially at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST, but the pre-show will start 30 minutes prior to the actual pay-per-view (7:30 p.m. EST/4:30 p.m. PST) and will be free on the WWE Network.
The official match-card for WWE Extreme Rules 2014, which includes the pre-show, is listed below, along with a pre-match description provided by WWE for their official WWE Extreme Rules page. This article will update with initial results once they are given, but detailed match results, which includes build-up, history, match details, as well as the result, will be released tomorrow starting after 12 a.m. EST.
