Watch Kings vs Sharks game 7 tonight by clicking on the link at the bottom of this game preview. Look for the Sharks vs Kings game 7 to be a classic as these teams take the Battle of California all the way down to the wire with a decisive game 7. There’s nothing like a game 7 in NHL playoff hockey, and it’s all the better when the two teams are longstanding rivals.
The San Jose Sharks are still searching for their first Stanley Cup. In fact, they’re still trying to win their first Western Conference championship. The team – which won the President’s Trophy with the best regular season record in 2008-2009 – has won six division titles, all since the beginning of the millennium, but has yet to make their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. To get there this year, they need to win tonight’s game seven of the Sharks vs Kings series , then get past a mighty Anaheim Ducks team that will have home advantage and then get past whoever wins the Central Division (either the winner of tonight’s game 7 in the Colorado Avalanche vs Minnesota Wild series or the Chicago Blackhawks ).
The LA Kings have had a bit more experience when it comes to contending for Lord Stanley’s Cup . They rode the impeccable goaltending of Jonathan Quick from the 8th seeded wildcard position all the way to the NHL championship in 2011-2012. They also played in the Stanley Cup finals in the Wayne Gretzky days of 1992-1993, losing to the Montreal Canadiens in five games. If the Habs keep playing the way they did in the opening round and the Kings can get through thisSharks vs Kings game and the next two series, we could well see a Canadiens vs Kings rematch in the 2014 Stanley cup Finals. Much of that depends on the play of Jonathan Quick who is nigh unto unbeatable when he’s hot and, frankly, not very good when he’s not.
If the Kings pull it off tonight, they’ll join an exclusive club of NHL teams that have rallied from an 0-3 deficit in a best of seven series to win. The other members of that club include the 1941-42 Toronto Maple Leafs (in the Stanley Cup finals against the Detroit Red Wings ), the 1975 New York Islanders (in the quarter finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins) and the 2010 Philadelphia Flyers (against the Bruins in the Eastern Conference semis). Not bad company at all.
