Rangers vs Flyers drop the puck in New York City at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time today for game five of their best of seven series. New York and Philly have been trading blows throughout the entire series and come into game five ties at two games apiece. Each team has won one on their home ice and one on the road as they head to New York for game five.
According to an AP report, Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist is keeping New York’s loss in game four in perspective as the Flyers vs Rangers series heads into game five of the Rangers vs Flyers series:
“It’s gone now. On the way home it was disappointing, and you try to learn something and come up with something that will help you moving forward, but then you let it go. You try not to think too much about the consequences. You just try to focus on your game and what you have to do, and enjoy it, tell yourself that it’s fun, because it is – when you’re winning.”
The Flyers got rock solid goaltending from Steve Mason in Friday’s 2-1 victory over the Rangers. Mason, who came back after more than two weeks off the roster due to what appears to have been a concussion, stopped 37 of the 38 shots he faced. It was his first victory in net in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Flyers tough defense will be without one of its key ingredients in tonight’s game five of the Rangers vs Flyers series after losing Nick Grossman to a knee injury. Grossman will be replaced int he lineup by 39-year old veteran Hal Gill. Gill has only appeared in six games all season and hasn’t seen any playoff action this year. Still, he’s no stranger to the NHL playoffs. Gill had this to say about playing in game six (and beyond, if needed):
“This is what I’ve been working to do. I’ve had it in my head over and over again. It will be nice to have it come to fruition on Sunday. We’ve got a guy banged up. If he can’t play, that’s what I’ve been working for.”
Hal Gill has played in the NHL playoffs ten years during his 16-season career. He had played a total of 110 playoff games for four different teams – the Bruins, Penguins, Canadiens and Predators. Tonight will make 111 games and five teams.
