Watch Kings vs Sharks game five tonight starting at 10 PM Eastern Standard Time (that’s 7 PM for all you West Coast fans). The Sharks, with a 3-1 series lead, seek to finish off the Kings, who face an uphill battle.
San Jose won the first three games of the Sharks vs Kings series and looked poised to skate to the next round with a sweep of their Pacific Division rivals. The Kings are looking to become only the fifth team in NHL Stanley Cup playoff history to overcome an 0-3 series deficit. Winning game four improved their chances somewhat. Not only does it give them some momentum to build on, but according to an article on nhl.com , 20 teams have come back from being down one game to three – 20 out of 229, to be more precise.
According to an AP report , Sharks’ coach Todd McLellan had this to say after his team’s loss in game four in the Kings vs Sharks series:
“We shouldn’t be comfortable. We should feel good about what we’ve accomplished to this point, but we shouldn’t feel comfortable. Last night should push us a little bit more. They played a good game. You have to give them credit and tip your hat to them. They were better than we were in areas, and we have get back to being the better team if we want to be successful.”
The Kings come into game five having put a 6-3 pounding on San Jose in game four of the Sharks vs Kings series, but knowing that their backs are still against the wall. One more loss and they can shave their playoff beards and spend the rest of the Spring working on their putting. Look for Los Angeles to approach tonight’s game with the same level of do-or-die intensity that they brought into game four. The Kings have a roster full of players who remember what it’s like to drink champagne from Lord Stanley’s Cup and won’t go down quietly.
As always, the Kings’ fate will rest largely on the all-too-often streaky play of Jonathan Quick. Additionally, the Kings’ Jarret Stoll feels it’ll be critical for Los Angeles to grab control of the Sharks vs Kings game early:
“We’ve got to be ready, especially for the start of that game, the first 10 minutes. Everybody says it. It’s true. You’ve got to weather the storm, you’ve got to take the game to them right away, and get them on their heels.”
